Hello There

Well I am very excited to be writing my first blog entry for Delectable Design. I haven’t really done anything like this before so it should be a fun adventure.

I was very lucky to have an amazing day off last week to conclude my summer (which to be perfectly honest was not much of a summer given the weather). Being an office dweller Monday to Friday I so appreciate those mid week breaks, they are so different then a Saturday somehow. Maybe because it is less busy everywhere, since everyone else is still working, or maybe it is just having the whole day to yourself to do as you wish. Nevertheless I thoroughly enjoyed it!

Well on this special day I chose to take a morning trip down to Blackie Spit in Crescent Beach. Now if you are a true South Surreyien / White Rockien you know exactly where I am talking about. Sheer beauty and peacefulness, I love it down there. Beautiful trails and views of the ocean and mountains on a lovely sunny morning – to me nothing can be better than this.

 I felt very ambitious and wanted to go and pick blackberries as there are a ton of them along the pathways. It is something I used to do at the end of the summer’s with my mom when I was young, we would pick bucketfuls and go home and make blackberry jam, YUMM. Well I didn’t pick quite enough to make blackberry jam, it is actually a very hard, and painful job. I was able to successfully fill a small plastic bag though, so all weekend long I had fresh blackberry’s and even created a yummy afternoon blackberry cocktail, delicious. 

We are so lucky to live where we do, being surrounded by such natural beauty all the time. I find such encouragement and refreshment just spending time in nature, and I find I am most inspired when taking in the surrounding’s of the different seasons. I think the seasons are an art form in themselves and a perfect colour palette to go off when adding those little seasonal touches around your home.

The dark purple of blackberries, vibrant green of summer foliage, serene and calming blues of the ocean and the sky, all delectable things that remind me of summer and bring a smile to my face. Whether for you it’s a fresh vase of flowers on your side table, a canvas of the picture you took of the ocean or just simply some toss cushions for your sofa in these colours – they all can add those fun and easy summer touches to your home.
Well happy end of summer everyone, although it seems in terms of weather it has just begun. Enjoy the pleasures of the season, September is a beautiful month. I look forward to spending more time with you discussing new design ventures very soon!
